If you dream it…

Fellow photographers will attest to the fact that when we bring our own children into the studio chaos usually ensues and we pretty much never get what we envision. Knowing this, I went into the studio anyway and was determined to at least try.  For the last 9 months I’ve been dreaming of a certain shot of my 2 children together. It’s always a challenge when you have more than 1 person in a shot because generally speaking everyone in the shot could be doing something different ie one with eyes closed, one looking elsewhere etc. It’s even more of a challenge when you have a newborn and a child under 5. I’ve been prepping my 4 year old for days and he’s actually been excited about having a photo of him and his little brother. When I say prepping I mean we’ve been talking about it and I’ve made it sound fun. No threats were issued, no bribes were uttered just good ol’ “we’re going into the studio and mommy’s going to take a picture of you & your baby brother so you can have one in your room”. Of course that only works if 1. your child is happy about their sibling and 2. your child loves having photos of the people they love in their bedroom. Oh and 3. your child is old enough to understand.

I’ve done this shot a number of times for my clients that have 2 children with one of them being a newborn or a baby 6 months and under and have been successful every time. So of course I couldn’t wait to try it out on my own kids, like I said I’ve been dreaming of it for 9 months! Here are my 4 year old and my 15 day old and one more of just my newborn.

Until next time,
