Andrea Rees, Canadian photographer

Andrea Rees is a freelance photographer, photography educator, photo tour leader, and founder of The Heart of a Woman Project, a women’s mobile photography initiative. She began her career as a portrait photographer in Toronto, Canada in 2003 and is known for her natural, artistic and emotive baby, family and women’s portrait photography. Her work has been featured on CBC, W Network, Splice Network and in national and international magazines including Shutterbug Magazine. In 2020, Andrea was named one of the Top 100 Women Founders by Travel Massive for The Heart of a Woman Project initiative.

Andrea offers virtual mobile photography workshops to corporations, small businesses, writers, journalists, NGOs and non-profit organizations interested in taking their smartphone photography to the next level. She offers practical, personalized, and interactive workshops online via Zoom or Google Meet. Ideal for professional development or virtual events for team building, conferences, and lunch and learn.

In 2021, Andrea welcomed almost 400 students to her virtual mobile photography workshops from across Canada, the USA, London, Amsterdam, Switzerland, and Casablanca. 

When Andrea is not in Toronto, she loves to explore the world with her 2 children and husband or on her own, to experience it first-hand. She is passionate about cultural and wildlife experiences as well as supporting small businesses, responsible tourism and women’s empowerment initiatives.

THE HEART OF A WOMAN PROJECT

Andrea founded  The Heart of a Woman Project (THOAW) in 2013. THOAW is a mobile photography initiative that partners with non-profit organizations that work in women’s empowerment, poverty alleviation, the arts and responsible tourism.

Mission: It aims to empower women to tell their stories and promote their products, a creative outlet, and an opportunity for sustainable income through photographic sales and photo-based campaigns.
